Most of the festivals in Benalmadena are in the summer, but be aware of Andalusia Day on the 28th of February, because at this day everything Spanish is closed. Besides this there is a lot to do in the summer in Benalmadena. Of course like in the whole of Spain Easter is celebrated largely in Benalmadena, especially in the Pueblo. There is a local fair in Arroyo de la Miel to celebrate John the Baptist in the end of June. Also at the end of June is the Da de los Juegos, where all the youngsters can enjoy a day of organised sports at the sports centre. In July in the Costa processions for the Virgen del Carmen, this is a festivity that takes place in most fishing communities in the Costa del Sol. In the middle of August there are the Virgen de la Cruz festivities, also with a fair in the Pueblo. Besides these traditional festivals in October is the Benalmadena International Short Film Festival.
Benalmadena offers almost al kinds of food from all over the world. This is mostly the influence of the large amount of foreigners, just like most other places in the Costa del Sol. But if you want you can still get local dished, which are most of the time made of products from the soil and sea around Benalmadena. Local cooking mostly consists of gazpachos with seafood, fried fish and some sangria. Of course the sangria is also made of fresh fruit out of the area.
