Nerja Costa del Sol

In the eastern part of the province Malaga lies Nerja, a small village, but a very popular tourist place. It does not have the large buildings as Torremolinos has, it has managed to stay like a small picturesque village. With about 18 thousand habitants it is one of the smaller villages on the Costa del Sol.

Even though Nerja is not big, it has a lot to offer. It is absolutely far from boring, a place in a beautiful surrounding that will never bore you. Nerja is also called the Balcony of Europe . You will understand this when you are relaxing under a palm tree on the Paseo Balcón de Europa. This Paseo Balcón de Europa starts in the historic centre and brings you almost into sea, with a beautiful panoramic view of the Mediterranean. Nerja has in total a coastline of some 16 kilometres.

Nerja Cave

There are also enough places outside of Nerja that emphasise the beauty and history of the village. For example the Acueducto del Aguila, which other than most people think this aqueduct is not built by the Romans. It was built in middle nineteenth century for the San Joaquín sugar mill.

Something other special about in the surroundings are the Cueva de Nerja, Nerja Cave. This cave was discovered in 1959 and has one of the longest stalactites (63 metres) in the world. There are more caves around Nerja, emphasising even more the amazing surroundings of this village.

This village is about 50 kilometres from Malaga, the capital and biggest city of the province. Because the highway that follows along the Costa del Sol it is easy to travel from town to town.
